& again

Ok I started this blog because we finally decided on a plan for our beautiful home, to transform our exhausted house. We were going to demolish the house and build.
Well we still are……….just not there!
Where?
We are currently waiting on the settlement of our new exhausted house. Much better block, bigger by 100 sqm, with beautiful gumtrees around the parameter (I know beware the falling gums). Better street, great primary school 250m, beach 1.5km, strip shopping 450m.
Well I digress, how did we end up one year on, new & improved plan?
Fate decided to sell the house to a lovely family that missed out on the house for auction across the road. I told the real estate agent to bring them through (after a hectic 18hr mass clean out, painting ceilings included) for a look. Looked like an episode of ’60 min Make Over’. Bundled half the house and kids into the car on two occasions for inspections and presto…….they bought it at $10, 000 more than we would have taken. Win win!
We are now staying in our investment property 30 min further out. Kids have changed child care, but I’m now 10 min from work, husband about 30. Dogs are loving the larger yard.
We’ve adapted well to the aftermath of the whirlwind.
The plans for the new place remain pretty much the same, although I fear we may blow the deca deadline by 6 months (I hope at most). There’s less than 2 years until the eldest starts primary school and hopefully attending the one 250m from the new block, and ideally I don’t want to drive 30-40min each way for school drop offs for longer than 4-8 months.
I went past the place today, met the previous owners, they seemed really lovely but very attached to the house we plan to demolish. Sometimes it’s easier not to have faces to put to the stories.
The house is in rough shape. Not much has been done in their 61 years of ownership, and it really showed. Hopefully we will find someone who will be happy to rent the place out as is, given I don’t really want to put any money into a future demolition zone.
The front yard is covered with brick pavers and the rear yard covered in concrete.
I spent more time today doing laps of the street and neighbouring streets. I am very excited by the location and can’t believe I have to wait 2.5 years (hopefully no longer) to call it home. I was giddy with the thoughts of my future lifestyle, but so nervous that it will never come to fruition.
Only time will tell!!!!!

Saw these in use the other day and thought they’d be perfect for the rumpus room. We hope to have bi-fold doors, so I thing these would be a more modern alternative to drapes. We’d have then in a heavier fabric.
